After the first meeting of chairpersons of the National Coordination groups (Trio Presidencies of the 4 MRS) and the European Commission in Brussels on 20 February 2020, the 2nd meeting was held online on 17 June 2020. This is the initiative of the Croatian presidency of Danube Strategy aiming to create a cooperation platform among the macro regional strategies.
The chairpersons of the National Coordination groups (Trio presidencies) of the 4 EU macro-regional strategies met to connect and to seek joint approaches to common issues.
Main topics addressed the embedding of the macro regional strategies into the EU funding programmes and exchange on tackling the post COVID-19 period challenges. The representatives underlined that joint objective is to support regions to become resilient and sustainable.
At the beginning of the meeting, on behalf of the Croatian Presidency of the Strategy, Assistant Minister Ms. Stella Arneri, greeted all participants and within her opening speech emphasizing that „At this moment, the main issue which the participating states of the Danube strategy are faced are the following: minimization of the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare systems and citizens health along with the simultaneous restoration of economic and social activities.”
During the meeting, it was discussed about the need to set a coordinated approach on the macro regional strategies role in post-COVID-19 crisis, notably with regard to the mid to long term economic recovery and a focus on what will be cornerstone of that.
The participants also made a focus on exchange on embedding process in each macro-region. They reported about state of play and further steps.
