A meeting of the Coordinators of the priority areas of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region was held in Zagreb on 11 and 12 February 2020 to discuss the current state of play of the Strategy and the processes taking place in the Priority Areas. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the European Commission in charge of monitoring the implementation of the Strategy and representatives of the Danube transnational cooperation program on which the Strategy is leaning on. At the beginning of the meeting, on behalf of the Croatian Presidency of the Strategy, State Secretary Ms. Nikolina Klaić, exclusive representative of the Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Mr. Marko Pavić, greeted all present and within her opening speech emphasized that „we are in a moment of self-reflection and that this is the right time to review past achievements and discuss opportunities for even better cooperation in the future“.
The main topic of the meeting was the incorporation of the new Action Plan of the Strategy into as many sources of funding as possible to ensure sufficient funds for the activities of all Priority areas and Strategy activities in the future financial period 2021 - 2027. It was stated that the negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework for the next financial period are to be completed soon and the Coordinators are again invited to actively contribute to the process and thus be a key factor in the successful implementation of the new revised Action Plan.
During the meeting, it was also discussed about the second "Seed money facility" call for project proposals of the Danube Transnational Cooperation Program, which will finance the development of projects related to the themes and needs defined by the Priority Area Coordinators. Among other meeting points, it should be emphasized that the roles and responsibilities among the stakeholders of the Strategy were also discussed and a working document on the management of the Strategy which defines roles and responsibilities among stakeholders was presented by the Croatian Presidency.
